A new Greg in town

Hopes of a home finalist were dashed in the second Boys U19 semi-final as Greg Marche made it a French double for tomorrow.

It was a repeat of their meeting last year which Joe won 3/2, and it started well for the Englishman as he took the first, nullifying the Frenchman's more attacking game as he drew him into long, attritional rallies, but found enough winners when needed to keep the scoreboard rolling.

The second and third games followed a similar pattern, as Greg seemed content to return ball after ball, waiting for openings rather than trying to force them. Joe reached game ball in both, but Greg recovered from 6/8 to take the second 10/8, and did the same in the third to take the lead.

The Frenchman visibly upped the pace in the last few points of that third, attacking more and more and it paid off. With the wind in his sails, he carried on in the same vein in the fourth, quickly going 3/0 up. Joe pulled level at 4-all, but his comeback self-destructed with three careless tins, and from 6/4 up Greg continued with the attack, and it took him all the way to the final ...

Three in a row for Camille & Shorbagy, comfortable for Annie

France's Camille Serme reached her third consecutive BJO final, beating Wee Wern Low in a repeat of their U17 final of two years ago.

The European Junior champion got off to a good start, quickly opening up a 3/0 lead in the first. The Malaysian started to find her game and made the middle of the game very competitive, but Camille strung together another run of quick points to take the lead.

The French girl was in control in the second, but had to fight back from 2/5 and 7/5 down in the third, reaching match ball on a stroke and taking it at the second attempt with a sweet dropshot that left Wee Wern stranded and out.

Mohamed El Shorbagy also made it three finals in a row, dashing the hopes of British National champion Adrian Waller in three games.

The Egyptian was on to in the first two games, mixing good length with the occasional outrageous winner. He led the third 6/2, but Adrian fought back well to level at 7-all and then earned himself a game ball at 8/7.

Shorbagy's return hit the nick on the side wall, the Egyptian levelled at 8-all and despite several handouts Adrian never got another chance as Shorbagy closed out the match.

"I tried to play long rallies, I knew he would be stiff from yesterday, but when I was up in each game I started trying to play nicks, I should have just finished the game off.

"I'll be 17 next week so I'll celebrate my birthday then, but tomorrow I'll be giving it not 100% but one million percent!"

Under 15 champion three years ago, Hong Kong's Annie Au eased into the U19 final with a straight-games win over Sina Wall. The German was unable to repeat her heroics of yesterday as Annie's short game proved her opponent's undoing in double-quick time.

Good start for Egypt

It was a good start for Egypt in the Girls U15 quarters at Hallamshire, as Menat Nasser, Sherouk Roshdy and Nour El Tayeb all moved into the semis, joined by defending champion Olivia Blatchford who survived a second-game blip to repeat last year's quarter-final win over Yan Xin Tan.

It was a similar story in the U13 quarters at Abbeydale where another three Egyptians moved into tonight's semi-finals.

Day Three, Fri 4th:
