Ross Takes Euroland Title In Aberdeen
Elspeth
Burnside reports
England's Stacey Ross had
beaten Scotland's top seed John White in the quarter-finals and he
continued his run of shock results to win the Euroland Properties North
of Scotland Open in Aberdeen.
For
31-year-old Ross, the 11-10 10-11 11-9 11-2 win over White was the best
of his career and he claimed another notable scalp in former world top
ten player, Wales' Alex Gough, in the final.

In an entertaining 75-minute match, the Surrey player fought back from
dropping the opening game to win 9-11 11-10 (3-1) 11-9 11-3 and justify
his decision to give up a lucrative job in the City of London to pursue
a full-time squash career.
As a youngster, Ross was the best player in Britain, winning the British
Under-16 title in the same era as the Scot turned Englishman Peter Nicol
who went on to dominate the world rankings and win British and World
Open titles.
"I worked in the City for six years but have now come back to squash as
a full-time player and I want to see how far I can go," said Ross. "I'm
in my thirties, so I know I've only got a few years left. But this
weekend has been a great boost."

Gough
Grabs Mr Chips' Bounty in Aberdeen
Top seed Alex Gough collected the lion's share of the
£5,000 prize fund on offer in the Mr Chips North of Scotland Open in
Aberdeen, beating defending champion Marcus Berrett 15/10, 15/9, 15/6 in
the final at Aberdeen SRC.
"That's the first time I've beaten Marcus in a long while," said
Gough, whose has propelled him to number five in the
BSPA Grand Prix standings. Despite losing his title here, Berrett's
performance has increased his already impressive lead at the top of the
rankings, putting the Yorkshireman on 1,550 points with second-placed
Peter Genever on a distant 715 points.
However, with Berrett not playing in the next two events (Wimbledon and
Esporta) where Genever is seeded one and two respectively, Berrett is
not home and dry yet ...

High Quality Field Chase Mr Chips' £5,000
The Mr. Chips North of Scotland once again returns to the
BSPA Grand Prix for 2004. Last year's winner Marcus Berrett is
already building up an impressive lead at
the top of the Grand Prix standings and his rivals will need to try and
halt
his progress if they are to stop him making it an unassailable one.
Berrett is a [3/4] seed, following the withdrawal of top seeded Martin Heath
with an ankle injury, with Wales'
Alex Gough and England's Simon Parke now seeded to meet in
the final.
