INFOR Windy City Open 2007
15-23 January, Chicago, $80k
Windy City hosts North
America's biggest event again

The University Club of Chicago has announced that Infor, one of the largest global providers of enterprise software, is the title sponsor of the 2007 Infor Windy City Open, North America’s largest squash tournament.

The 26th annual tournament will take place at the University Club of Chicago from Monday, January 15 to Tuesday, January 23, 2007. The event will feature the richest North American prize purse on the PSA Tour for the second consecutive year. The championship will draw nearly 60 world-renowned squash champions, including current world-number-one Amr Shabana from Egypt. Last year’s champion, former world-number-one Australian David Palmer, will be returning to defend his title. The tournament has drawn 16 of the top twenty players in the world, including players ranked 1 – 8.

The unique venue of the four glass wall squash court staged in the University Club’s magnificent Cathedral Hall is now considered by squash fans to be second only to the staging of the court alongside the Egyptian pyramids. The Infor Windy City Open will be filmed for broadcast on SkySports network so that squash fans around the globe can view the intense match play in this iconic venue.

"As the title sponsor of the prestigious Windy City Open, we look forward to welcoming the participating athletes and spectators to Chicago. Like our company, this tournament embodies a positive atmosphere of international cooperation, spirited competition and a passionate global fan base."

Exec. VP & CFO, Infor

Both international competitors and more than 200 amateur players of all skill levels will travel to Chicago from around North America to compete in the event. In the United States alone, squash boasts more than a million players, with more than 1500 in the Chicago area.

"Chicago is a vibrant squash community, and we are excited to host a tournament on par with the U.S., Qatar, British, and Hong Kong Opens," said John Flanigan, tournament and athletic director, University Club of Chicago.

SquashSite will be represented this year, as I will be discovering the City/Tournament for the first time ever, and I'm lucky enough to have David Barry from St Louis to perform his camera magic.
